SOERJO MONUMENT
Soerjo
monument is one of historical monuments in Ngawi. This monument is located in
Ngawi-Solo street, Pelanglor village, Kedunggalar, Ngawi, East Java. It was
opened for public on Oktober 28, 1975. Soerjo Monument was built as a sign of honor from the citizen of East
Java, especially citizen of Ngawi, to the first East Java governor, Raden Mas
Tumenggung Aryo Soerjo and the two assistants, Kombes M. Duryat and Kompol
Suroko who were killed by PKI under The leader of Maladi Yusuf when crossing
the forest area of Kedunggalar on 10 September 1948.Until
now, Soerjo Monument is still well carred, so the condition of the monument and
its surroundings is still good. To visit this place, tourists it is free of
charge. To make this monument and the surrounding to be a more comfortable
place, the caretakers of Soerjo Monument have planted Sawo Kecik, another
trees. To improve the fa cility in the area, the caretakers have provided
pendopo as a rest area. There are also a mosque, an infromation center, a playgarden,
and a big parking area. There are already some food and ice vendors, so the
visitors can enjoy their time in this place. So, other than being a historic place, this place can also be a place
to take a rest when heading to Sragen-Ngawi journey.
